Genesis Flood as Biblical Fact Home |
Bible states the Genesis flood as fact, not myth
Genesis 7:18-24
18 The waters rose and increased greatly on the earth, and the ark floated
on the surface of the water.
19 They rose greatly on the earth, and all the high mountains under the entire
heavens were covered.
20 The waters rose and covered the mountains to a depth of more than twenty
feet.
21 Every living thing that moved on the earth perished—birds, livestock, wild
animals, all the creatures that swarm over the earth, and all mankind.
22 Everything on dry land that had the breath of life in its nostrils died.
23 Every living thing on the face of the earth was wiped out; men and animals
and the creatures that move along the ground and the birds of the air were wiped
from the earth. Only Noah was left, and those with him in the ark.
Genesis 8:1-5
1 But God remembered Noah and all
the wild animals and the livestock that were with him in the ark, and he sent a
wind over the earth, and the waters receded.
2 Now the springs of the deep and the floodgates of the
heavens had been closed, and the rain had stopped falling from the sky.
3 The water receded steadily from the earth. At the end
of the hundred and fifty days the water had gone down,
4 and on the seventeenth day of the seventh month the ark
came to rest on the mountains of Ararat.
5 The waters continued to recede until the tenth month,
and on the first day of the tenth month the tops of the mountains became
visible.
Nowhere in the Bible do you get the idea of a local flood, but rather a true, world-wide flood that covered the entire earth covering ALL the high mountains.
Jesus believed it happened - listen to Jesus' words:
Matthew 24:39
and they knew nothing about what would happen until the
flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the
Son of Man.
Luke 17:27
People were eating, drinking, marrying and being given in
marriage up to the day Noah entered the ark. Then the flood came and destroyed
them all.
2 Peter 3:6
By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed.
How could the whole earth be covered?
Marine fossils have been found on the highest parts of Mt Everest. Was the water above Mt Everest? Not likely - rather, Mt Everest was formed during and after the catastrophic flood events.
How could all the animals fit on the ark?
See Noah's Ark
Wasn’t it a local flood?
No. The Bible makes it clear it was a world-wide flood.
Psalm 104:6
6 You covered it with the deep as with a garment; the waters stood above the
mountains.
Humans Populated The Entire World. After more than 1600 years of habitation on Earth, the planet's population was surely large (millions or billions). The Bible confirms that (a) Man had multiplied upon the face of the Earth (Genesis 6:1), (b) Violence and corruption filled the Earth (Genesis 6:11-12). The Bible is clear that man could not have existed only in the Mesopotamian region - a region too small to support such a large population, especially considering the natural dispersion affect of a violent society.
All Humans Were Killed. The Bible clearly teaches that all flesh died and that only Noah and his family survived and were commanded to fill the earth.
Genesis 7:21
Every living thing that moved on the earth
perished—birds, livestock, wild animals, all the creatures that swarm over the
earth, and all mankind.
Genesis 9:1
Then God blessed Noah and his sons, saying to them, "Be
fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth.
Isaiah 54:9
"To me this is like the days of Noah, when I swore that
the waters of Noah would never again cover the earth. So now I have sworn not to
be angry with you, never to rebuke you again.
