Genesis Flood was Worldwide   Home

How could the whole earth be covered?

Marine fossils have been found on the highest parts of Mt Everest.  Was the water above Mt Everest?  Not likely.  Rather, Mt Everest was formed during and after the catastrophic flood events.

If all the mountains and sea basins were made level resulting in an earth with a uniform radius with respect to the land, the earth would be covered with 1.7 miles of ocean water!  All the flood waters reside in the current oceans.  There is plenty of water to cover the entire earth if the land masses and sea basins are evened out.  (http://www.christiananswers.net/q-aig/aig-floodwater.html)

Earth with uniform radius

Wasn’t it a local flood?

No.  The Bible makes it clear it was a world-wide flood.

Psalm 104:6
6 You covered it with the deep as with a garment; the waters stood above the mountains.

Humans Populated The Entire World. After more than 1600 years of habitation on Earth, the planet's population was surely large (millions or billions). The Bible confirms that (a) Man had multiplied upon the face of the Earth (Genesis 6:1), (b) Violence and corruption filled the Earth (Genesis 6:11-12). The Bible is clear that man could not have existed only in the Mesopotamian region - a region too small to support such a large population, especially considering the natural dispersion affect of a violent society.

All Humans Were Killed. The Bible clearly teaches that all flesh died and that only Noah and his family survived and were commanded to fill the earth.

Genesis 7:21
Every living thing that moved on the earth perished—birds, livestock, wild animals, all the creatures that swarm over the earth, and all mankind.

Genesis 9:1
Then God blessed Noah and his sons, saying to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth.

Isaiah 54:9
"To me this is like the days of Noah, when I swore that the waters of Noah would never again cover the earth. So now I have sworn not to be angry with you, never to rebuke you again.

Continental Shelf Formation

It is likely that the sea floors lowered and the land masses raised as a result of the catasrtophic changes as a result of a world-wide flood, which would have resulted in massive sheet erosion of the continents.  This sheet erosion would have resulted in massive amounts of sediments being transported across continents.  But where is all the sediment deposited?  Aside from the obvious depositional structures around the globe that stretch across continents, the continental shelf found around all continents were most likely formed as the result of sediment being deposited off the edges of the rising continents.
